Understanding Acne: Causes and Solutions

Tried Anything & Everything But Nothing Works?

Misconceptions About Acne

Can we all agree that there is a misconception that only oily skin is prone to acne? The reality is that acne is a common issue affecting many of us at different stages of life. For some, it's a temporary phase, while for others, it remains an ongoing battle. Before diving into the best Sothys skin care products, let's first understand what acne is and its causes.

How Acne Develops?

Understanding Sebum and Its Role

Acne begins to develop when there is an over production of sebum. This normally happens to oily skin type however, people with dry skin cannot escape from this as well. Sebum is an oily substance that protect and hydrate the skin's surface. It makes up 90% of the skin's lipids, which are responsible for locking in moisture and protecting against UV radiation and other environmental harms.

Dry Skin and Acne

If you have a dry skin, your skin tends to produce oil to protects the skin barrier but it might overproduced oil more than what your skin needs which will lead to acne. This goes the same with oily skin - an overproduction of oil.

Oily Skin and Acne

Similarly, oily skin is prone to overproduction of sebum, which can clog pores and cause inflammation, resulting in breakouts.

Contributing Factors to Acne

Managing and regulating sebum is crucial, but it's not the only factor that causes acne. Poor skincare habits and using products that are not compatible with your skin can also cause irritation and clog pores.

Environmental factors are also to be considered. Beyond car exhausted and noxious fumes, there are many tiny dust particles. The particles start a chain reaction that causes blackheads, increased oil production and a build-up of dead cells, essentially causing acne.

😆Fret not, there is no concern or problem without a solution. If you are looking for an acne-fighting skincare routine and products, here we present to you Sothys' best acne skincare products for both oily and other skin types.

1. Clarifying Correcting Serum

The Clarifying Correcting Serum lives up to its name by effectively "correcting" your acne. This serum contains active ingredients such as salicylic acid, tea tree oil, licorice extract, and a biotechnical complex.

Tea tree oil is a well-known remedy for treating acne. Salicylic acid, another widely recognized ingredient, is highly sought after for its acne-fighting properties. If you have inflamed acne, this serum is worth trying! It is antibacterial, antifungal, and helps control sebum production. Believe me, it will give you a "Woah~".

Calling for a skin S.O.S.? This serum is the concentrated "emergency" anti-blemish solution that helps reduce stubborn imperfections of oily skin. It will help control the production of excess sebum, balance shiny skin, and reduce the size of dilated pores and any imperfections you want to eliminate. This serum is ideal for skin with tiny bumps and less severe acne. Additionally, it will control and prevent the reappearance of acne. The active ingredients include iris extract, zinc salt, a vitamin A complex, as well as licorice, allantoin, and lichen complex. It is suitable for combination to oily skin.

This is by far one of our favorite clay masks. Formulated with green clay, white clay, and salicylic acid, it works to absorb excess sebum, acts as a gentle exfoliant, and improves overall skin quality. Apply this mask at least twice a week to the entire face or, if you prefer to treat specific areas, apply it only to the targeted area overnight. Voila, you will see your acne slowly disappearing. This mask has been clinically tested, with 95% of participants reporting satisfaction and improved pore tightness.

(Sigh...) We understand how frustrating it can be to see acne persist.🤔

It's also important to know if your skin is compatible with the products you are using and to minimize environmental stress as much as possible. Skincare is amazing if you get it right, but it also requires discipline and being diligence if you wish to see the utmost satisfying results.
